Mighty Muscles

1. Think about three kinds of athletes-sprinters, weightlifters, and gymnasts. They all use muscles in different ways. How are they different? What do they need their muscles to do? Can you think of other sports in which athletes use their muscles in similar ways to these three kinds of athletes? When do you use your muscles in the way they use theirs?
Flexible Muscles, Strength muscles, To gain speed.

2. Now think of an activity that you do, for example, making a ham and lettuce sandwich. Mime all of the actions (taking the ham and lettuce out of the fridge, picking up the knife, and so on) while your partner writes down the parts of your body and the muscles that are involved. How many muscles does it take to do this simple tasks?
Finger muscles, Arm and shoulder muscles, elbow muscles, legs, spine.

3. Together, read through the card again. Take turns to explain how pairs of muscles work. How many pairs of muscles can you find in your body-for example, the ones you use to open and close your mouth?
There are 642 muscles in a human body, A baby has 300 bones, There are 206 bones in a human body, You use 4-22 muscles when you lift dumbells.

National Anthem

E Ihowa Atua
O nga iwi matou ra
Ata whakaraangona
Me aroha noa
Kia hua ko te pai
Kia tau to atawhai
Manaakitia mai
Aotearoa

God of nations at thy feet
In the bonds of love we meet
Hear our voices we entreat
God defend our free land
Guard pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war
Make her praises heard after
God defend New Zealand

When we heard a splash

When we were at camp it began when we heard a splash! We got a huge fright and we were scared and frightened. Everyone was so scared of the sound. Then it got louder and louder. The others were walking away from the splashing sound. When we got very close to the sound we heard a huge splash. We were so scared with fair down your spine. We turned back and ran towards our cabins. First we tried to figure out what the sound could be. It couldn't been a shark jumping out of the water. Or just might be others doing huge bombs. Then we went to look and hear the sound. It came back but it got quieter and quieter. We looked over the rocks and saw nothing. When looks out to sea and saw splashes and bubbles coming up from the water. The surface was like steaming hot. It looked like some island from underwater was coming out of the water. I think that was an island. But then it vanished. We wondered what it would have been. The next day we heard it again but this time we ran down and there it was. Mermaids splashing and flicking their tails making huge bombs and water jumped out onto the rocks. We told everyone the great news and the next day we played with the mermaids and talked to them about everything and everyone lived on happily ever after.
